Coounder and CEO of CheckSig (bitcoin custody for institutional investors and high-net-worth individuals) and Digital Gold Institute (R&D, consultancy, and training about bitcoin and blockchain technology), Ferdinando Ametrano is also scientific director of the Crypto Asset Lab at Milano-Bicocca University, where he teaches “Bitcoin and Blockchain Technology”. Former Head of Blockchain and Virtual Currencies in Intesa Sanpaolo bank, he has been Planning Committee member of the Scaling Bitcoin conference, is an occasional trivial contributor to Bitcoin Core, and maintains btclib, a bitcoin python library.

Fintech innovator, technologist, and open source developer, he is author of scientific publications and contributor to multiple media outlets. Appreciated professor, speaker, panelist, lecturer, and instructor, he has been invited to events about bitcoin at the United Nations, central banks, the Italian Parliament, universities, conferences, and workshops.

His academic research focuses on price stability, advocating automated non-discretionary elastic monetary policy for a new generation of cryptocurrencies (Hayek Money).

He is also cofounder and coadministrator of the QuantLib project, a comprehensive free/open-source software framework for quantitative finance. “Interest Rate Derivatives” Adjunct Professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca, he has relevant publications on this subject and has headed trading, quantitative, and risk-management teams in Banca IMI (Intesa Sanpaolo), Banca Caboto and Monte Paschi Asset Management; he has also been co-founder and managing partner of RiskMap (now StatPro Italia).
